A Fire Alarm System is a safety system designed to detect fire, smoke, or heat and alert people through alarms so they can evacuate quickly and emergency response can begin. It is commonly installed in buildings, offices, factories, and public places to minimize loss of life and property. A Fire Alarm System = Control Panel + Detectors (automatic/manual) + Notification Devices + Power Supply + Auxiliary Interfaces.
Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
The “brain” of the system.
Receives signals from detectors and activates alarms.
Initiating Devices (Detection devices)
Smoke Detectors – sense smoke particles in the air.
Heat Detectors – detect rapid temperature increase.
Manual Call Points (MCP) / Break Glass Units – allow people to raise an alarm manually.
Flame Detectors – detect infrared/ultraviolet radiation from flames.
Notification Devices
Sirens / Sounders – loud audible alarms.
Strobe Lights / Flashers – visual alarms, helpful in noisy areas or for hearing-impaired people.
Voice Evacuation Systems – give clear instructions during emergencies.
Power Supply
Main electrical supply.
Backup batteries (to keep the system running during power failure).
Fire Alarm Cables & Wiring
Connect detectors, panels, and alarm devices.
Fire-resistant cables are used for reliability.
Auxiliary Devices / Interfaces
Sprinkler system interface.
Elevator control (to stop elevators during fire).
HVAC shutdown (to prevent smoke spread).
